Kick Off

Robotics Kick-Off Travel Arrangements

Friday, January 2nd

7:30 AM - Meet from Idabel High School parking lot. We will leave at 8:00 AM. You should already have turned in your permission/waiver form and you should already have completed your NASA questionnaire.

Breakfast – you buy, on the way to Stillwater

Lunch – Swick's Pizza, all you can eat pizza & drink.  Robotics pays.  If you want salad bar, it's an extra $1.50 and you pay for it. Unlimited black light miniature golf available for $3.00.

Check-in at dorm (Kerr-Drumond) hang out until 4:30 PM, may have opportunity to view campus.

4:30 PM – Load up and go to Wes Watkins Center to help.  We need to give back to the Robotics community.  Also, we need to build alliances with other teams and with other adult mentors.  Try to split up in groups of two and network, exchange emails, make friends so you'll have friends at the competition. If we don't finish at the top, we want to be known so we'll be chosen for finals.  THIS IS CRITICAL!!!!

Dinner – Subway sandwiches, chips and drinks at the dorm. Robotics pays.

Saturday, January 3rd

We'll let you know what time to be ready.

Breakfast – you buy at fast food restaurant.  There may be doughnuts, juice, and coffee available

Lunch – Swick's Pizza, all you can eat pizza & drink.  Robotics pays. If you want salad bar it's an extra $1.50.  Unfortunately there will not be time for unlimited black light miniature golf. Darn. An adult needs to call an hour before lunch to let Swick's know what time we will be there.  405-533-2000

Dinner – On the way home, fast food, you buy.

FIRST elsewhere

I went to the annual Rockwell Automation "Automation Fair" in Nashville a few weeks ago.  There were a couple of acres of control system "stuff" and then off in the far corner was a FIRST booth. ( Rockwell Autmation is a sponsor).  Here are a couple of pics I took, sorry for the quality, all I had was my cell phone.

The most impressive part of the fair was a vision system. It played Guitar Hero.  The camera watched the screen and little solenoids pushed the buttons on the PS guitar.

Control System

Part of the Programming Team met today.  We are in good shape, our controller is up and running and our "2469" WiFi network is functional.
