FIRST on Twitter….
Follow the highlights from this year's Championship on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/FIRSTAtlanta09

 Take the FIRSTCommunity State/Country Challenge!
The FIRSTCommunity social site was created to encourage personal and professional networking among FIRST Alumni, Mentors, Coaches, and Volunteers. It's an amazing opportunity to tap into a network estimated at over one million strong and growing.

To make this site a valuable and lasting resource for its members, we need everyone's help in reaching out to former and current FIRST participants to register.

Take the FIRST Challenge and make your state/country number one!

By getting the most FIRST current Team Members, Alumni, Mentors, Coaches, and Volunteers to register on the Web site, your state/country will be featured for one month on the FIRSTCommunity home page.  Each month will bring a new challenge and new state/country to feature.

The state/country with the most participants by April 30, 2009 will be that month's winner.

Go to: FIRSTCommunity.usfirst.org

Good luck to all and thank you for your support in bringing together the FIRST Community!

Greetings Teams:

Do you have valuable FIRST experiences to share?  Do you want a FIRST keychain?  SharingFIRST is a social networking site especially for girls where FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST LEGO League members can all share technical and non-technical experience with peers as well as with newer and/or younger teams. To help us complete the grant supporting SharingFIRST, we invite you to add information to the site.  In late April, we will be contacting you to help us evaluate the site.

Things you might upload on the site include: lessons on torque, an explanation of gears, instructions on how to build a robust robot, advice for recruiting and retaining new team members, how to use a particular tool, applying to colleges, career information, etc.  We want YOU to upload documents, presentations, and anything else that may be of interest to members of the FIRST community.
Because a major goal of the grant is to provide FIRST girls and women with a place to share their experiences, we ask that you share this message with the girls and women on your team.  The site is open to everyone, but we ask you to actively encourage the girls and women on your team to participate.

You can check out the site at www.sharingfirst.org.  To upload materials, you will need to request a username and password.  Please send the following info to ksullivan@usfirst.org:

  • your name
  • your preferred username
  • your chosen password
  • tell us if you’re a student or a coach/mentor
  • tell us what program you’re involved with (FRC, FTC, or FLL).

The first 50 girls and women to upload materials will receive a limited edition SharingFIRST keychain.  Just be sure to let us know as soon as you have uploaded your materials (contact ksullivan@usfirst.org).

Go Teams!

Greetings Teams,

We hope you all had a rich and rewarding experience at the Regional Competitions you attended!  We will see some of you at the Championship in Atlanta.

Seniors, there are still over 20 FIRST Scholarships for which you can apply (whose application deadlines dates are in the future).  But hurry up, some of those deadline dates are approaching very quickly.  Be sure to check out the FIRST Scholarship web page (at www.usfirst.org/scholarships) and follow the link to the 2009 FIRST Scholarship Opportunities.   You can sort the scholarship list by application deadline date by clicking on the Deadline column header.

New or Changed FIRST Scholarships:

  • ITT Technical Institute has updated their scholarship description with an additional participating campus, in Boise, ID.  They now have 34 participating ITT Tech campuses throughout the country that are each offering one FIRST scholarship for $9,000/year renewable up to $18,000.  Check their scholarship description to see if there is a participating campus in your area.  The application deadline is 4/10/09.
  • Plymouth State University offers an unlimited number of renewable scholarships for $2,500 - $3,500/year.  These scholarships are now available to both FRC and FTC students.
  • Westwood College is offering two non-renewable scholarships for $2,500 that can be used at any of their campuses in CA, CO, GA, IL, TX, and VA.  These scholarships can be used for any course of study.  The application deadline is 7/1/09.
